Wednesday, March 5, a few students from Holton Middle School shared their journalism experiences with our preschool morning classes. Tara Hurt's students presented a picture book about journalism while reading it aloud to each preschool class. Then our preschool students shared some of their thoughts and ideas about what they want to be when "they grow up." Some students remembered and shared their memories of the community helpers who came to our preschool in the fall. Afterward, our preschool students drew a picture of what they want to be some day. Then the middle school students assisted our young learners by writing a few words on the page about their picture (which was dictated by the preschool student). :) The middle school students were fantastic and did a great job with this activity. We hope they come back soon!

Special visitors, Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas State Department of Education Commissioner and Danny Zeck, Kansas State Board of Education District 1 Representative were our guests this morning at Holton Elementary, Tiny Paws Daycare, and Holton Preschool. While visiting the preschool, Dr. Watson read, "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" while our very own Mrs. Thompson created a visual representation of the story using an "old lady puppet." The students were very attentive and engaged - all 56 of them! Dr. Watson and Mr. Zeck also visited our Tiny Paws Daycare to "play" for a few minutes. Our little wildcats enjoyed telling them all about their imaginative play and ideas. Dr. Watson and Mr. Zeck also observed two Kindergarten rooms. Students were learning a phonics concept as well as using that concept in a written format. We were very excited to host our two guests today!
