HISTORY
Established
by a group of young women in 1897, Holton's Beck-Bookman Library
continues a strong tradition of community service. Founded by members of
the all volunteer Bookman Club, the library now operates as a vital and
vibrant hub of the community.

The Bookman Club organized in 1896
From a child's first picture
book to accessing the World Wide Web, Beck-Bookman Library provides an invaluable resource to community members of all ages. An extensive
collection (books, periodicals, large print books, books on tape/CD and
videos/DVD's) are available in a comfortable, modern and fully
accessible setting.

Bookman Club Today!
With a bequest from the Jesse
Bender Family and a generous trust from
Edward S. Beck, former managing editor of the Chicago Tribune, the
current library facility was built and occupied in 1952. The
library is named in honor of Major and Mrs. M.
M. Beck, pioneer residents of the town, and the Bookman Club. The
children's room is named The Bender Room in honor of the Bender
Family. An addition was built in 1995 and a new
circulation desk and computer stations were added in December of 2004.
The library now houses a collection of 30,000 materials.
The library is supported by municipal,
county, and state funding as well as charitable gifts and trusts. It is
governed by a seven-member board.
