History
(The following information was gleaned from notes provided by Jack Rose, Past District Governor.)

1923- Began the meeting the second Friday in April 1923, 12:15-1:15, as part of District 8, Rotary International. Ross Francis was president and the club was sponsored by Topeka Chapter. Approximately 25 member, included Will Beck, Ross Francis, Jim Naylor, and Harry Kaul. First meeting was at the City Hotel, in 1932 moved to the Holton Hotel and about 1962 moved to Jackson County Fair Building. Projects included cripple children, food and gifts at Christmas for the needy, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H Tents, auto safety checks, Farmers Day, Rotary meeting in nearby towns, family picnics, and parties.

1924- Rotary International Convention- June 16-20, Toronto Canada. Lee Epinger was the delegate from Holton. Speakers included Paul Harris, President emeritus, and Chesley R. Perry, Rotary International secretary reported 1923-24 income of $562,545.70 with expenses of & 549,118.14.

1932- Albert Cole, president. Holton club won the attendance contest at Rotary International Convention in Seattle, Washington.

1935- Jim Naylor, president, reported to the club the following projects were addressed-T.B. health screening, bond purchased, shoes for needy, Boy Scout work, feeding the undernourished children and personal service.

1936- Milt Gabel president. The district assembly was held in Dodge City for club officers. There was a training session March 21 at Wichita University with an emphasis on Youth Service.

1937- Marion Eisminger, president. Holton club, now at 43 members, sponsored three area clubs, Seneca, Valley Falls, and Oskaloosa. District 8 was changed to District 123.

1942- Ed Hochuli, president. Elmer Pruett gave a program on the work of Air Rid Wardens in protection of like and property. Elmer was in charge of training AR raid wardens for Holton.

1946-47- Henry Lueck, president. Paul Harris died. Holton club had 46 members. The Foundation Scholarship Program began, John Conard now in Lawrence, was our district Scholar and was on the proram April 25-26 at the District Conference in Topeka, at the Ramada Inn. Perfect Attendance for 33 years and 5 month: Irv Cantrall, Forrest Clark, Jack Rose, Yale Wells, Gene Graham, and Sheldon Hochuli.

1952-53- Yale Wells, president. Holton club had 48 members. Student Loan Program started in 1950. Don Shelly received the first loan, approximately 15 students qualified and only one student failed to repay.

1954-55- Jack Rose, president. Rotary International Goldent Anniversary. Fifty Holton Rotary members attended the District Conference in Leavenworth. 33 Holton members conducted a model meeting at the conference. Hosted 45 foreign students for a weekend from the University of Kansas, this continued for several years.

1961-62- Harold Rolley, president. John Chandler, was District Governor

1969-70- Don Hammerli, president. There were 58 members in our club. The student Exchange program was started with Helen Moore from Australia.

1972-73- Bob Baum, president. Golden Anniversay of Rotary

1973-74- Wayne Ogilvie, president.

1975-76- Marlin White, president. Elaine Hill from Australia was the exchange student.

1976-77- Bill Mercer, president.

1977-78- Dale Kellerman, president.

1979-80- C.L. Riley president. Lars Walber from Australia, was the exchange student. President of Rotary International, Jim Bomar, Shelbyville, Tennessee, visited District 5710 at Junction City, and C.L. and Jack Rose attended.

1981-82- Jim Birkbeck, president. Natalie Martinequie, from France, was the exchange student.

1982-83- Pat Hershy, president. Rotary Foundation Scholar applicant Don Haber, was selected as first alternate.

1983-84- Bernard Clark, president. Ted Armeson, from Sweden was the exchange student. Jack Rose served as District Governor for District 5710.

1984-85- D.E. Gantz, president.

1985-86- Harold Hauck, president.

1986-87- Clancy Norris, president. Two applications for Rotary Foundation Scholars from Holton, Brendan Fletcher and Candies Leonard. Candies received a one year scholarship to go to England and study at the London School of Economics.

1987-88- Jeff Stephenson, president. (Resigned March 1988)

1988-89- Ed McKenzie, president.

1989-90- Jerry Young, president.

1990-91- Dennis White, president.

1991-92- Mike McManigal, president.

1992-93- George Gantz, president.

1993-94- Bill Mercer Jr., president.

1994-95- Joy
