Library
provides public access to the Internet in keeping with its mission to provi=
de
recreational, cultural, educational and reference information materials and
services. Users must comply w=
ith
the
The library is concer=
ned for
the safety and security of users who access online information. The library has no control over the
information on the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its
content. The restriction of a
minor’s access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or
legal guardian. Parental permission is required for u=
se of
the library Internet computers by children under the age of eighteen. For children age 12 and under, a pare=
nt
must be in the library with the child at the time of Internet use. Perm=
ission
forms may be obtained at the circulation desk and need to be completed in t=
he
Library before using the Internet. Proof of identification/date of birth mu=
st
be provided if questioned by staff.
Using library computer
workstations in an inappropriate manner or for illegal purposes is
prohibited. Members of library
staff are under no obligation to monitor library workstation usage. When, however, a member of the lib=
rary
staff determines that a patron is using a workstation in an unacceptable
manner, any or all of the following consequences may apply:
1.&n=

Immediate
termination of the Internet session.
2.&n=
bsp;
Additional
suspension of computer use or other library privileges.
3.&n=
bsp;
Notificatio=
n of
appropriate law enforcement officials.
Patrons shall not acc=
ess or
exhibit inappropriate matter on library Internet workstations. Inappropriate matter is defined as=
the
following:
1.&n=
bsp;
Access or e=
xhibit
obscene material on library computer workstations.
Disseminat=
ing or
exhibiting obscene material is a crime in the state of

2.&n=
bsp;
Access mate=
rial
or computer-generated images deemed harmful to minors.

3.&n=

Use the lib=
rary
computer workstations in a manner that allows them to possess
a
computer-generated image that contains or incorporates sexual exploitation<=
span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>
of a child= . (See K.S.A. 21-3516, as amended).<= o:p>
Additionally, patrons=
shall
not:
1. Participate in email, a chat room,=
or
instant messages that use information that=
is obscene=
as
defined by

bsp;
Attempt to =
gain
unauthorized access to any data, computer, or network.
3.&n=
bsp;
Disclose, u=
se,
and/or disseminate personal information that could threaten or create a
vulnerability for a minor, for any other person, or for the library.
4.&n=
bsp;
Copy materi=
als
that are copyright-protected without permission of the copyright holder unl=
ess
the proposed use falls within the definition of “fair use.” (See
United States Code, title 17, Section 107).
Public access comput=
ers at
the Beck-Bookman Library do not have filtering software installed.
If required the
library will comply with federal legal requirements for technology protecti=
on
measures (filtering software). Library patrons need to be aware that no
technology protection measure will protect patrons from access to all obsce=
ne
or objectionable materials.
