About Us
| In October, 2003, Jackson County Communities
That Care Coalition, a non-profit agency in northeast Kansas, was
granted funding to form the Jackson County Parent Information and
Resource Center (JCPIRC). |
| The Jackson County Parent Information and Resource
Center (JCPIRC) will enable Jackson County Communities That Care
Coalition to work as partners with Royal Valley School District,
North Jackson School District, and Holton School District, and the
Prairie Band Potawatomi Reservation in the education of our children
by providing opportunities that support a parents' need to become
involved. The purpose of the JCPIRC is "To provide programming
and resources in Jackson County that supports parents in helping
their children be successful academically, socially, and emotionally."
Our mission is "To bridge the gap between schools and parents,
allowing them to work together for the betterment of their children." |
The purposes of JCPIRC are: ∑ To implement parental
involvement policies, programs, and activities that lead to improvements
in student academic achievement. ∑ To develop and strengthen
partnerships among parents (including parents of children from birth
through age five), teachers, principals, and administrators.
∑ To create and/or strengthen the relationship between parents
and their children's school. ∑ To further the developmental
progress of children. |
The strategies of JCPIRC are: ∑ To act as a liaison
between schools, parents, and community organizations. ∑
To provide consistent communication with parents to ensure follow-up
support for their children's educational achievement. ∑
To provide "Community Conversations" with the community
and parents to provide opportunities to discuss state standards,
No Child Left Behind, and related topics. ∑ To Expand
home and school connections for children ages 0-5, while working
with all students targeting, but not limited to grades K-5, through
regular visits regarding student academic achievement and developmental
progress. ∑ To further the developmental progress of children,
targeting at-risk groups. ∑ To Provide parent seminars
that focus on promoting effective communication, participation in
school-home-community partnerships, and strong parenting skills.
∑ To encourage and support parents and community members with
opportunities to volunteer in the classroom, Head Start, or as a
tutor's aid in the after school program. ∑ To provide
"Academic Blasts" focusing on, but not limited to, preK-5th
grade where parents are taught strategies for helping their children
academically at home. ∑ To identify, provide, and maintain
a Parent Resource Center in each district area. ∑ To create
a Jackson County Parent Community Resource Directory ∑
Each of the 4 Parent Resource Specialists will make home visits
to discuss developmental and academic progress (to strengthen home-school
connections). ∑ To work with a broad group of school/community
members to identify district needs. |
