General

The City of Holton is located in Northeast Kansas among rolling hills about 28 miles north of the state capitol, Topeka on U.S 75 Highway, 4 lanes from Topeka to Holton. Holton is the county seat of Jackson County with the courthouse serving as the center of the square downtown business district.

Today, Holton is a classic midwestern community boasting turn-of-the-century homes with large porches and hand-carved trim. Brick streets lined with stately old trees frame a network of neighborhoods within this city of 3,300. Map of the City of Holton

Government

Holton is a City Manager-Commission form of government with 5 Commissioners elected at large serving 3 year terms. The Mayor is chosen by the Commissioners after the April election every year. The City of Holton owns it's own electrical power plant and distribution system which supplies electricity for the City and surrounding areas within a 3 mile radius.

The Population of the City of Holton is 3,353. (2000 census) and of Jackson County 12,657. (2000 census)

Climate and Geographic Information

Average daily temperature is 26 degrees in January, 78 degrees in July, 55 degrees in April and 57 degrees in October. The average annual precipitation is 35 inches with 15 inches being the average annual snowfall.

Elevation is 1,085 feet above mean sea level and lies 39 degrees 30 minutes north latitude, 94 degrees 40 minutes west longitude.

Hospital

Holton Community Hospital offers quality care close to home with 24-hour emergency treatment, in-patient and numerous out-patient services. The rural health clinic, Family Practice Associates, employs four M.D.'s, two ARNP's and one PA to provide health care.

Holton Industrial Park

The Holton Industial Park is located 1 mile North on U.S. 75 Highway and has a number of excellent building sites available ranging from 1.71 acres to 3.75 acres.
